The outside area sounds pretty epic.  I'm very happy to know Cephalic Carnage are keeping up with their entertaining Black Metal Sabbath routine.  Mayhem?  Freakin' bleargh!  LAMEhem!!!  First ever show on US soil for Asphyx though... DAMN!  Didn't know that... now I'm REALLY jealous!  Maruta... Yawn... NEEDS the low-end, fuck!  I would have loved to see PLF!  RS are indeed brilliant live, as full of energy on stage as on record... Simply astounding!  "FAIL of Bullets" though?  C'mon... I can't of imagined them being that bad... Really!  Fuck BrTr... I always found that band to be faggy Grind bullshit... Don't really know why... Just NEVER enjoyed them.  NEVER.  I'd of much rather seen Misery Index, who I've hardly heard recently.  Still, easily one of the best bands I've seen... and on multiple occasions.  Agree about seeing Immolation live.  Wish I could see Birdflesh, I'm just straight-up jealous on that factor.  I love that bad tooooooooo damn much!  Eruption of multi-colored glow sticks?  Motherfucker why do I miss the best?!?!  FUCK!  ND is always fun, but hardly so entertaining I think.  I'd of loved to see BoTh.  I'll have to comment later on the other day write-up, but... Awesome review!

It seemed to me that he doesn't dig Hail of bullets cuz they're primitive "old school" death, but that is a fuckin KILLER band....!!!!

Cephalic Carnage is pure rubbish from all those gay music videos with emos and crap riffs   Huh?

Woulda loved to come to this fest.... and killed a few posers and bought some extremely cheap cds!! hehe

I let out a big dirty Sid James laugh when I read that. Smiley Even my travelling companion, who is a fan of the band, was critical of their set. In his opinion they made the mistake of playing their best song first, which meant it was downhill from there (that's not to say he didn't generally enjoy it though). I really dig their concept, I like their guitar sound, and of course you can't go wrong with Van Drunen's vocals, but the riffs and the songs are very average, and there was F.U.C.K, fuck, fuck all energy in the instrumental delivery.

Lol. I have nothing against them because they're primitive and old school, but because they're DULL! Wink

As for Aura Noir and Destroyer 666, I've known for a long time that I'm not a fan of either band. I watched some of both their sets but there was nothing there to change my opinion. For me they're both middling bands, nothing particularly wrong with them, but nothing right at the same time - and middling bands are the most difficult to write about. To be fair to Destroyer 666 though, they were better than the last time I saw them, but nothing to write home about. Literally.

Thanks for the responses guys. As Piraan would say, +1!  Grin

Was that Duncan who went with you? Jeez he goes on and on about HoB, so if he says they were disappointing I believe him.

Let us not forget that live performances and album performances are different things. Does anyone know that Johari window thing? Well there are parallels. You can get: shit record/shit live, shit record/great live, great record/shit live, great record/great live. The eye-openers are the bands who are significantly better live than they are on disc. Napalm Death and Cephalic Carnage are good examples for me.

It was Lal.

Great live/Shit album or grades of that are the most disappointing, especially when you buy an albm based on the strength of a band's show. Maruta are an example of this, great show, but the album's merely above average (rather than shit). PLF too, they were cool live but having checked them out on MySpace since I can't say I'm bothered about buying any of their releases.

i found Aura Noir to be much better live
...and they didn't play MDF but i can not for the life of me enjoy an Amon Amarth album-but they are glorious live

I would write a lot about what I thought of the fest, but I just typed up 3500 words about it for my own site and sifted through about 50 pictures to narrow it down and I'm all reported-out. Cheesy

I thought Aura Noir was one of the highlights as was Sigh.
